About D.I.T.T

DITT Construction Ltd is the largest Shetland based construction Company, and has been established in the forefront of the industry in Shetland for over thirty years. Initially the Company was involved in local authority and private house building, but by expanding during the 1980’s, progressed and diversified into more complex and larger construction projects. These included Montfield Hospital, Scalloway School and the Aith School for which the Project Architect and DITT received the Saltaire Award.

In the 1990’s, the Fisheries College, Scalloway and Sandwick Swimming Pools and the Clickimin Leisure Centre Swimming Pool were successfully completed along with numerous other smaller contracts.

The largest contract undertaken by DITT was the construction of a swimming pool complex and bowls hall at the Clickimin Leisure Centre in Lerwick, Shetland. This project, with a value of £9.35m, was won against stiff competition from mainland contractors.

More recently the Company has completed the prestigious new Shetland Museum and Archives project, opened in May 2007.

During the expansion of the company, DITT has built up a management structure and work force with extensive experience in all types of construction. Today the company employs some 90 personnel with an annual turnover of over £6.0 million.

Expertise has been gained in Civil Engineering with water retaining concrete, formwork, suspended slabs, high tolerance construction, structural steelwork, heavy lifting and crane handling.

D.I.T.T. Construction Limited has its own joinery workshop, second to none in Shetland. It is capable of producing the widest variety and quality of house kits and fittings, samples of which can be seen in the refurbished Islesburgh Complex and Clickimin Leisure Centre complex.

Whilst only the larger type of contracts are listed above, the Company also undertakes a variety of smaller contracts of a domestic, commercial and industrial nature, including ongoing maintenance works for both Shetland Islands Council and Shetland Enterprise Company Limited.

In September 2005 the Company was awarded the Federation of Master Builders builder of the year award for the refurbishment of the Tollbooth for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
