Introduction to the Company

DITT Construction Ltd is one of the largest construction companies within Shetland and has been at the forefront of the industry for over 40 years

The company premises include a builder’s merchants operation with an extensive stock, serving the retail and trade market.

The company has built up a management structure and workforce with extensive experience in all types of construction. Today the company employs close to 80 personnel with an annual turnover of approximately £8 million.

Expertise has been gained in all forms of construction including complex civil engineering, large scale civic and health projects, social housing schemes, private developments, maintenance and refurbishment contracts.

Our joinery workshop produces a wide variety of quality house kits, staircases and fittings, samples of which can be seen throughout Shetland.

Our range of knowledge, expertise and ability allows us to undertake projects of all sizes, ranging from large scale Civil Engineering developments to Commercial and Industrial right down to smaller scale domestic works.  This expertise was endorsed by the Federation of Master Builders, when DITT was presented with the Master Builder of the Year Award for its refurbishment of the Tollbooth, owned by the Royal National Lifeboat.

We continue to demonstrate our improvement strategy through actively participating with clients such as BP and Enquest, who have praised our excellent HSE performance and our ability to introduce innovative methods to ensure everyday tasks are carried out safely and cost effectively.

Our aim is to provide products and services that are safe, environmentally sound, and to a quality standard that exceeds customer’s needs and expectations, and at a price that is competitive. In order to achieve this, the company implements and maintains its integrated management system that control activities in an effective and efficient manner.

Our philosophy is to remain customer focused and to encourage all employees to actively participate in the ongoing development of its management systems.

We are committed to playing our part in the Fair Work Convention’s vision, that by 2025 people in Scotland will have a world-leading working life, where fair work drives success, wellbeing and prosperity for individuals, businesses, organisations, and society.  We are therefore developing a workplace that is built on the five key dimensions of Fair Work: effective voice, opportunity, security, fulfilment, and respect.

This continual ability to perform and maintain our standards is highlighted with DITT securing (through external auditing of its managment systems) the latest ISO accreditation 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System) and the 45001:2018 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System).
